Die Rennserie
Die SRC Langstreckenmeisterschaft, veranstaltet von der Simrace Community, beinhaltet 3 Wertungsläufe über je
6 Stunden, 1x 12 Stunden und 1x 24 Stunden. Variables Wetter und ein starkes Teilnehmerfeld zeichnen die Serie
aus, die mit dem GT-Masters Mod gefahren wird. Neben den beiden traditionellen Langstreckenkursen Sebring und Spa-Francorchamps finden sich im Rennkalender noch Barcelona und die Klassiker Laguna Seca und Le Mans.

Ace Racing ist mit 3 Teams in der Rennserie vertreten, gewählt wurden ein BMW M3, ein BMW Z4 und ein Ferrari 458. Gefahren wird jeweils mit 2 Mann Teams, um die 6 Stunden Renndauer gut abdecken zu können.
Ace Racing entered 3 cars for the series and chose a BMW M3, a BMW Z4 and a Ferrari 458. Two drivers per car pilot the vehicles in the races with a duration of 6 hours each.

Rennen #1 - 6H Sebring
Zum ersten Mal seit Bestehen des Teams nahm Ace Racing an einer Langstreckenserie der Simrace-Community teil
und den Auftakt machte ein 6 Stunden Rennen in Sebring. Die Strecke ist ein echter Klassiker im Endurance Racing
und es gibt keinen Ace Racing Fahrer, der hier nicht schon mindestens ein Rennen gefahren ist. Wenig überraschend also, dass Ace Racing mit gleich drei Teams an den Start ging:
Steffen und Alex - Ferrari 458
Marinus und Rico - BMW M3
Gerry und Fabio - BMW Z4
Das Layout in Sebring ist ein tolle Mischung aus schnellen Passagen, vor allem im dritten Sektor, und technisch sehr anspruchsvollen Abschnitten. Die für Florida typischen hohen Temperaturen liessen relativ hohen Spritverbrauch er- warten und die Fahrer mussten sich auf eine die Reifen schonende Fahrweise einstellen, wenn die Strategie halbwegs funktionieren sollte. Marinus holte in der Qualifkation Platz 10, Steffen Platz 15, das Fahrerduo Gerry/Fabio konnte leider nicht teilnehmen und musste somit für den Z4 den letzten Startplatz in Kauf nehmen. Dennoch schaffte es das Team, nach nur kurzer Zeit bis ganz nach vorne zu fahren, sogar 8 Führungsrunden konnte man der Rennauswertung entnehmen. Über weite Strecken lief das Rennen absolut nach Plan und - von dem einen oder anderen kleineren Zwischenfall, der zu einem Rennen einfach dazugehört, abgesehen - konnten alle Fahrer eine gute Performance zeigen.
Leider schaffte es der Ferrari nicht bis ins Ziel, mit nur etwa 15 Runden verbleibender Fahrzeit fiel der Wagen aus und
musste das Rennen vorzeitig beenden. Aufgrund der gefahrenen Distanz von über 90% des Rennens wurde der Wagen aber trotzdem gewertet (P13) und konnte sogar punkten. Besser lief es für Marinus und Rico, mit P3 schafften sie ein tolles Ergebnis und einen Podiumsplatz. Gleich dahinter, auf Platz 4, kam der Wagen mit Gerry und Fabio ins Ziel, ebenfalls ein hervorragendes Resultat! Den Sieg holte das Team von SKS (Manfred Schneider und Ulf Schmitz), Platz 2 ging an das Heimteam, die "SRC-AG".

Race #1 - 6H Sebring
For the first time ever Ace Racing acing took part in an endurance series organised by the Simrace Community and the first event on the calendar was the 6 hour race at Sebring. The circuit is a real classic in endurance racing and there is hardly a driver at Ace Racing, who hasn't done at least one race at this great venue. Therefore, it is not surprising that Ace Racing listed three teams for the race:
Steffen and Alex - Ferrari 458
Marinus and Rico - BMW M3
Gerry and Fabio - BMW Z4
The layout in Sebring is a great mix of fast straights and wide corners, especially in the third sector, and technically demanding sections. Due to the typically high temperatures in Florida a relatively high fuel consumption was to be expected and the driver had to adjust to a driving style that would allow them to conserve fuel and keep the tires alive if a reasonable strategy was to work out. In qualifying, Marinus managed P10 and Steffen P15, the driver duo Gerry and Fabio unfortunately were unable attend and therefore had to take the last spot on the grid with their BMW Z4. Regardles of their bad starting position, the two of them managed to move through the ranks swiftly and after only a short time were at the front and even managed to lead the race for 8 laps. For quite a while the race went absolutely according to plan and with the exception of a few minor incidents, that simply belong to a race, all drivers were able to display a good performance on-track.
Unfortunately, the Ferrari failed to the finish as the car developed a technical problem with only 15 laps to go and had to end the race prematurely. Due to having covered more than 90% of the race distance the car was still classified on P13 despite being DNF and even managed to score points. Marinus and Rico had better running and managed a great result with a podium finish on P3. Right behind them, Gerry and Fabio reached the chequered flag on P4 also getting an excellent result! Team SKS (Manfred Schneider and Ulf Schmitz) took the win, 2nd place went to the local heroes of the SRC-AG.

Rennen #2 - 6H Spa-Francorchamps
Das zweite Rennen ist vorbei und während es für einige Fahrer und Teams nicht besser hätte laufen können, hatten andere erhebliche Probleme das Auto konstant über die Strecke zu bringen. Schon die Qualifikation gestaltete sich schwierig, nur das Z4-Team mit Gerry und Fabio konnte teilnehmen (Startplatz 8), die beiden anderen Ace Racing Teams mussten sich am Start hinten anreihen. Ein Fahrerausfall im M3 sorgte für zusätzlichen Stress, aber zum Glück konnte Harald einspringen und den Wagen an den Start bringen. Für die Konkurrenz bei SKS mit Manfred Schneider und Ulf Schmitz in den beiden Ferrari lief das Rennen perfekt: In der Qualifikation fing es mit Platz 1 und Platz 3 schon hervorragend an (in dieser Rennserie darf jeder Fahrer mit einem eigenen Auto fahren) und die Fahrer konnten beide Fahrzeuge über die Distanz bringen. Ulf Schmitz war absolut fehlerfrei unterwegs wohingegen Manfred Schneider mit kalten Reifen einen Dreher in der Eau Rouge unmittelbar nach dem Start hinnehmen musste, konnte seinen Ferrari
aber noch vor der Wand abfangen. Damit war Manfred allerdings fast Letzter, nachdem er bis dahin das Feld anführte. Henning Wollert konnte die Chance nutzen und fuhr auf Ulf Schmitz in jeder Runde ein paar Zehntel heraus während Manfred Schneider das Feld von Hinten einzuholen versuchte. Es brauchte eine ganze Zeit lang bis er wieder seinen Rhythmus fand und wieder Vertrauen in die Eau Rouge hatte.
Nach dem Ausstieg von Henning Wollert bekam Ulf Schmitz die Führung zurück und konnte sich von seinen Kontra- henten laufend absetzen. Das Rennen wurde klar von den Ferrari dominiert und es schien als könnten die beiden ihr Rennen reibungslos beenden. Zwischen Gerry Hard im Team Ace Racing und Markus Müller von Speedy Konsales ging es um einen Platz auf dem Podium. Beinharte Duelle und tolle Zweikämpfe gab es ohne Ende und auch bei vielen anderen Fahrern und Teams waren etliche tolle Szenen zu sehen. Zwischenzeitlich führte Gerry das Rennen sogar an, es waren allerdings nur zwei Führungsrunden, die er für das Team verbuchen konnte. Ulf Schmitz stellte sein Auto in der letzten Runde ab, allerdings nicht wegen eines technischen Defekts, eines Unfalls oder eines Fahrfehlers, sondern weil er und Manfred Schneider im gleichen Team fuhren und das Reglement festlegt, dass nur einer der beiden Teamwagen ins Ziel gefahren werden darf. Manfred Schneider gewann zum 2. Mal das Langstreckenevent in Spa, gefolgt von Gerry auf Platz 2 und Markus Müller als Drittem auf dem Podium. Steffen holte Platz 5, das Team hatte somit 11 Plätze gutge- macht und Harald, der im BMW M3 als Ersatzmann eingesprungen war, erreichte das Ziel auf Platz 7.
Next Stop: Barcelona!

Race #2 - 6H Spa-Francorchamps
The second race is over and while things could hardly have been any better for some drivers and teams others had to battle significant problems in order to get the car to the finishing line. Right away in qualifying things proved difficult as only the Z4 team with drivers Gerry and Fabio was able to participate (managing to secure P8), the other two Ace Racing teams had to line up at the back of the grid for the race start. A driver dropping out in the M3 caused additional stress but luckily Harald could step in and take control oft he car for the initial stages of the race. Our opponents in
the SKS team (Manfred Schneider and Ulf Schmitz) drove a perfect race with their Ferrari: Pole and P3 in qualifying
(as both drivers of a team are allowed to run a car of their own) and a pefect race by Ulf Schmitz (Manfred Schneider suffered a spin in the Eau Rouge and dropped back considerably) handed the team a good position for extending the lead in the standings. Henning Wollert started to take advantage of being second and put the pressure on Ulf Schmitz by gaining a few tenths on him each lap. In the mean-time, his team mate Manfred was almost last but worked his way through the grid again by overtaking one car after the other. It took a long time for him to find his rhythm again and go through the Eau Rouge with confidence but eventually he managed.
Once Henning Wollert handed the car to his team mate Ulf Schmitz got the lead back and managed to continuously pull away from his opponents. The race was clearly dominated by the Ferraris and it seemed as if the two of them would finish the race in great style. Our driver Gerry battled hard with Markus Müller (Speedy Konsales) for a spot on the podium and the spectators witnessed many laps of great fighting and wheel-towheel driving between these two drivers - Gerry even lead the race for a couple of laps. Ulf Schmitz retired in the penultimate laps butthis was not due to a technical problem or an accident but because although both drivers of a team are allowed to run a car of their own only one of the two cars is allowed to cross the finishing line. As his team mate Manfred Schneider was clearly up for the win, Ulf did the right thing and SKS had their second win of the season, followed by Gerry on P2 and Markus Müller on third place. Steffen managed P5 (thus climbing 11 positions) and Harald, our replacement driver in the M3, finished seventh. Next stop: Barcelona!

Rennen #3 - 6H Barcelona
Der dritte und vorerst letzte Lauf der 6H Rennserie der SRC fand in Spanien statt, wo sich die Fahrer auf den Circuito de Catalunya einstellen mussten, eine zwar bekannte wenn auch - vor allem im Gegensatz zu Sebring und Spa - nicht unbedingt als Langstreckenklassiker gewohnte Strecke. Dem Spass und der Spannung des Rennens tat dies jedoch keinen Abbruch und für unsere Teams ging es um die Chance, den Gesamtsieg zu holen oder zumindest den zweiten und dritten Platz absichern zu können. Ganz nach vorne zu kommen, würde nicht leicht sein, denn das führende Team von SKS hatte bereits 20 Punkte Vorsprung und somit einen guten Punktepolster, sowohl S&F Racing als auch das zweite Ace Racing Team lagen nur 9 Punkte zurück. Erklärtes Ziel: Auf Sieg fahren und nach Möglichkeit in der Gesamtwertung P1 oder P2 und P3 belegen. Der dritte Wagen von Ace Racing hatte im vorigen Lauf mit Problemen zu kämpfen gehabt und lag mit P8 im guten Mittelfeld - ein Podestplatz war nicht mehr zu holen, aber die Top 5 konnten in der Schlusswer- tung anvisiert werden!
Terminbedingt konnten am Renntag nur zwei der Teams antreten, aber zumindest waren dies die beiden bestplatzierten Wagen, der M3 und der Z4. Zur Freude des Teams und des Wagensponsors BMW schaffte Rico eine Spitzenzeit in der Qualifikation und holte die Pole, Fabio erreichte mit dem Z4 Platz 7 in der Startaufstellung. Das Rennen verlief anfangs völlig nach Wunsch und die Platzierungen der Wagen waren über weite Strecken gut bis sehr gut, aber in Runde 66 gab der Motor des M3 seinen Geist auf und das Team musste den Wertungslauf nach nur wenig mehr als einem Drittel der Renndistanz aufgeben. besser lief es für Gerry und Fabio im Z4, die nicht nur auf die Pace achteten, sondern das Rennen auch strategisch klug anlegten. SKS zu schlagen war kaum möglich und die Fahrer zeigten auch in Spanien eine starke Leistung, womit sich der Fokus auf das Verteidigen des zweiten Platzes in der Gesamtwertung konzentrierte.
Gegen Rennende lag die direkte Konkurrenz, das Team S&F Racing zwar auf dem dritten Platz während unser Wagen
auf P5 unterwegs war, aber damit würden Gerry und Fabio den Punkteabstand im Rahmen halten und Platz 2 sichern können. Jetzt noch anzugreifen, hiesse mehr zu riskieren als noch zu gewinnen war, somit legten wir vor allem Wert auf einen sichern Abschluss des Rennens. Den finalen Stint übernahm Gerry, der in gewohnt ruhiger Manier den Wagen ohne eine Kratzer ins Ziel brachte und die 19 Punkte, die Platz 5 einbrachte, reichten problemlos, um den 2. Platz in der Gesamt- wertung zu sichern. Für Marinus und Rico im M3 bedeutet der frühe Ausfall ein punkteloses Abschneiden und das Team rutschte in der Gesamtwertung auf P6 zurück, aber die Freude über den Platz des "Runner-Up" für Ace Racing als Renn- stall war trotzdem gross!

Race #3 - 6H Barcelona
The third and last round in the SRC endurance series was run in Spain where the drivers had to get used to the Circuito de Catalunya, a track that is not as renowned as a venue for endurance events - especially in comparison to Sebring and Spa which are both real classics. However, this did not diminish the fun and the excitement of the race in any way and for Ace Racing the aim was to either win the trophy (a difficult but not impossible task) or at least secure second and third place in the final standings. The overall victory was not going to be easy as the leading team of SKS already had a lead of no less than 20 points, but S&F Racing and one of the Ace Racing teams were only 9 points behind. Our strategy was clear, go for the win and hope for SKS to run into a problem which would open up the possibilty for the title. Our other team could aim for P2 or P3 in the standings and the third team - due to the difficulties in the previous race - would have to settle for trying to finish the series in the top 5.
Come race day, our third team (the Ferrari 485) was unable to compete due to the drivers having other commitments but our better ranked teams, the M3 and the Z4, would definitely start. To the team's delight Rico managed a great laptime in qualifying and secured the pole, Fabio put the Z4 on P7. The race started off nicely and for a long time the cars were running on good or even very good psotions in the grid. Alas, in lap 66 the engine of the M3 gave up and the team had to retire after only a little more than 30% of the race distance. Things were going better for Gerry and Fabio in the Z4 with both drivers maanging a good pace and the strategy working well, too. Beating SKS for the title was going to be impossible, though, the team's drivers were going strong so our team had to focus on defending second place in the overall standings instead.
As the race moved into the final stages our direct competitor, S&F Racing were running on third place while our car was on P5 but as long as Gerry Fabio managed to maintain that gap things were going to be alright and we would manage to secure 2nd place in the standings. To attack now would have meant taking an unecessary risk so our drivers concen- trated on finishing the race rather than pushing too hard. Gerry took control of the car for the final stint and brought the car home without a scratch in his usual manner and the 19 points for 5th place were easily enough to defend and secure P2 in the overall standings. For Marinus and Rico in the M3 the early failure meant no points at all and the team dropped back in the overall standings to P6 which was, of course, a great pity. But at the end of the day Ace Racing was overjoyed with being Runner-Up on the team's first attempt in the SRC endurance series!

Zwar wurde von der Orga das 12H Rennen in Laguna Seca der Punktewertung nachträglich zugerechnet,
aber obige Tabelle gilt als Endstand der 6H Serie in ihrer ursprünglichen Planung.
